Shanghai Jiao Tong University undertaking the Fourth Sino-German Forum on Digital Manufacturing Industries

On September 18th, the 4th Sino-German Forum on Digital Manufacturing Industries, jointly organized by the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the German Academy of Engineering and co-organized by MÜNCHNER KREIS, a German think tank and the School of Mechanical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was held at Shanghai International Conference Center. As an important part of the "International Conference on Innovation and New Industry Development" in Shanghai, experts and scholars discussed the hot issues, cutting-edge technologies, and developments of digital transformation of global manufacturing industry. Nearly 200 experts, scholars and researchers from government, domestic and foreign universities, research institutes and famous enterprises attended the seminar.


The forum was discussed around the topics of "Digital Tools and Business Models in Manufacturing" and "Artificial Intelligence in Manufacturing", which were chaired by Prof. Michael DOWLING, member of MÜNCHNER KREIS and member of the German Academy of Engineering, and Prof. Liu Baicheng, member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and professor of Tsinghua University. Prof. Zhong Zhihua, member of the party group and vice president of Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the conference and delivered a speech. Prof. Lin Zhongqin, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and president of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Prof. Siegfried RUSSWURM, executive director of the Council of German Academy of Engineering, delivered a speech and made a report. Prof. Reiner ANDERL, professor at the Technical University of Darmstadt and dean of the German Academy of Science and Letters; Prof. Ding Han, member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and dean of the School of Mechanical Science and Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology; Mr. Dieter WEGENER, member of the Board of Directors of Siemens; Prof. Ulrike REISACH, member of MÜNCHNER KREIS and professor of Neu-Ulm University; Prof. Yang Huayong, member of Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, Zhejiang University; Prof. Wolfgang WAHLSTER, former director of German Research Center for Artificial Intelligence and one of the proposers of German Industry 4.0; Mr. Lin Ou, chairman of Jiangnan Shipyard; Prof. Roland HELM, member of MÜNCHNER KREIS and professor of Regensburg University, and other experts brought ten exciting keynote presentations.


In the round table discussion session, the reporters had a lively discussion on new technologies, new views and new directions of digital transformation and smart manufacturing development in manufacturing industry. The experts exchanged views on the development direction and policies of emerging industries and digital technology innovation and looked forward to the prospect of the development of intelligent manufacturing.


The first Sino-German Forum on Digital Manufacturing Industries was held in Munich in November 2016, which played an important role in mutual communication, mutual enlightenment, and common development in the field of smart manufacturing between the two countries. This "Sino-German Forum on Digital Manufacturing Industries " is the fourth gathering of Sino-German experts in the field of manufacturing, which not only creates an international academic exchange platform for digital transformation and development of manufacturing industry, but also provides a source of wisdom for the transformation and sustainable development of Chinese manufacturing industry, guiding and promoting global technological innovation and the development of new industries.
