Title: Successfully held! Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Smart Manufacturing at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (FIP-SM@SJTU) Open Day and "Sustainable Manufacturing and Digital transformation" Forum

On June 26, Open Day and "Sustainable Manufacturing and Digital transformation" Forum of Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Smart Manufacturing at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (FIP-SM@SJTU) were held in Lingang New Area.

HUANG Hong, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission and Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, LU Yu, Director of High tech Industries and Technological Innovation Division, Lin-gang Special Area Administration, Mr. Uwe Koch, Science and Technology Consul of Consulate General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Shanghai, and Mr. Clas Neumann, Global Senior Vice President of SAP and Head of global Labs Network, delivered opening speeches on site. Professor XI Lifeng, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Professor Thomas Bauernhansl, Director of the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Germany attended and delivered congratulatory speeches online.


At the event, Fraunhofer Innovation Platform for Smart Manufacturing at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (FIP-SM@SJTU) and SAP China Lab signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on building an international first-class joint innovation laboratory at the Shanghai Lingang Free Trade Zone. In the future, they will develop joint innovations in three directions: smart manufacturing, intelligent enterprises based on Al, and sustainable manufacturing. This strategic cooperation will deepen the high-quality development of Fraunhofer in China, accelerate the transformation of advanced technology and research achievements between China and Germany to enhance the productivity in the enterprise. In the presence of leaders from all parties with special representative from the Fraunhofer IPA Institute Mr. FAN Zhi, and representative from the Fraunhofer Beijing Representative Office Mr. FAN Guodong, Professor WANG Hao, the Chinese Director of FIP-SM@SJTU and distinguished professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Dr. LI Ruicheng, the President of SAP China Lab, officially signed the memorandum.


Then the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Science and Technology and the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs introduced policies related to foreigners coming to China; The High tech Industries and Technological Innovation Division, Lin-gang Special Area Administration made a promotion on the investment environment and preferential policies.


After that, Mr. Joachim Seidelmann, the German director of FIP-SM@SJTU gave a Keynote speech with the topic “Digital Twin for open, federative data space”online. And Mr. WANG Hua, the Development Lead of SAP Digital Supply Chain at SAP China Lab, delivered keynote speech with the focus of “digital supply chain”.


More than 70 people from German enterprises and institutions attended the meeting. Among them, there are over 20 German executives. This includes executive managements from well-known German companies such as Bosch, Volkswagen, ABB, Schaeffler, Joyson, Pierburg, KOSTAL, Freudenberg, KSHP, TROESTER, and representatives from German organizations such as, the Verband Deutscher Maschinen- und Anlagenbau (VDMA), the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD), the Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI), and the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). All the guests visited the latest developments and innovative achievements of FIP-SM@SJTU and SAP in the field of Industry 4.0, and personally experienced the innovative achievements of both sides in Industry 4.0, intelligent manufacturing, and smart enterprises in recent years.


Subsequently, nearly ten executive managements from German companies in China joined the round table sessions on popular topics such as Industry 4.0, digitization, sustainable manufacturing, and artificial intelligence applications in the manufacturing industry with Mr. FAN Zhi, special representative from the Fraunhofer IPA Institute and deputy director of FIP-SM@SJTU and Mr. SHAO Xin, Head of operation department at FIP-SM@SJTU. They had a very deep discussion about the topics and shared with the insight with all the guests.


After two keynote speeches, two policy introductions, and two round table discussions, the attending guests had a relaxed and enthusiastic free discussion, jointly looking forward to a good future of Sino-German cooperation.


Based on the concept of establishing a foothold in Shanghai and promoting the high-quality development of technological innovation between China and Germany, under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Commission of Science and Technology, the Shanghai Municipal Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs, and the Lin-gang Special Area Administration, FIP-SM@SJTU will work together with SAP China Lab and the Enterprise Alliance to build a sustainable development partner ecosystem, provide application technologies that balance technological foresight and industrial implementation, and jointly better serve local and global customers in China, establishing a new benchmark for the innovative development of Industry 4.0 and intelligent manufacturing in China.
