On October 10th, 2018, the 3rd the Third Sino-German Forum on Digital Manufacturing Industries, jointly organized by the National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), and the German think tank research institute MÜNCHNER KREIS, was successfully held in Munich. Prof. Karl-Heinz Streibich, President of National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), Prof. Zhou Ji, former President of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Prof. Henning Kagermann, former President of National Academy of Science and Engineering (acatech), and more than 60 professionals attended this forum. Prof. Liu Baicheng, Prof. Li Peigen and Prof. Guo Dongming, Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Prof. Wang Hao, Vice Dean of the School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Mr. Wang Xiaohu, General Manager of Haier COSMOplat mass customization solutions platform, Mr. Hu Nan from the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Dr. Huang Pei, CEO of e-works global and other guests attended this forum. The forum was chaired by Prof. Michael Dowling, Advisory Member of the Council of acatech, Professor of the University of Regensburg. Representatives from German academia and industry such as Siemens, SAP, Fraunhofer, Technical University of Darmstadt and Adamos delivered speeches.

The theme of this year's forum was "Platform Strategies for Supporting Digital Manufacturing". In the morning session, Prof. Karl-Heinz Stribich and Prof. Zhou Ji delivered welcome speeches. Prof. Michael Dowling delivered a keynote speech on platform economy and network effect; Mr. Nils Herzberg, Senior Vice President and Global Head of IoT Business of SAP, explained platform economy from an international perspective; Prof. Dieter Wegeer, Vice President, Head of Corporate Technology, Siemens, introduced the development status of Germany's Industry 4.0 platform; Mr. Daniel Poodratchi of Adamos, a newly founded German industrial IoT platform, shared the development status of industrial IoT platforms for central enterprises; Mr. Wang Xiaohu introduced the background and application of Haier COSMOplat platform; Prof. Wang Hao, Vice Dean of School of Mechanical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University exchanged the results of smart manufacturing platform construction in Shanghai.
 
 
 
In the afternoon session, Prof. Reiner Anderl, Professor of Technical University of Darmstadt, Academician of acatech, and Chairman of the Steeering Committee of the German National Industry 4.0 Platform, analyzed the promotion and achievements of Industry 4.0 in Germany, and introduced the relevant practices carried out by his research team; Prof. Liu Baicheng from Tsinghua University, Academician of CAE presented a speech named as “Modeling and Simulation - the Key Technology for Digital Transformation”, introduced China's strategy to promote smart manufacturing and shared the results of casting, plastic processing and heat treatment applications; Prof. Claudia Eckert from Fraunhofer AISEC gave a speech on industrial network and platform security and introduced the development of the project Industrial Data Space.
 


After the speech, Prof. Michael Dowling invited Prof. Dieter Wegeer from Siemens, Prof. Claudia Eckert from Fraunhofer AISEC, Prof. Liu Baicheng from Tsinghua University, Prof. Wang Hao from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Mr. Wang Xiaohu from Haier for a roundtable discussion to answer relevant questions from the audience.
